Early Introduction

Perhaps (by which I mean "certainly") I am premature in posting. I will not be departing for China for 181 days. But today, everything is confirmed. It is really happening.

I am going to China.

I will be spending Fall 2013 in Xi'an, a program called "Globalization, Then and Now" with the Alliance for Global Education.

I have done research, read blogs, tried to learn phrases (I will be going as an absolute beginner, and I'm grateful that they're letting me!), asked my friends all sorts of questions... I suppose that I am an information fiend. No one should be surprised by that revelation.

Blogging (and journaling) will be interesting for me. I tend to fluctuate between excessive observation and insufficient recording. Either I write down everything that happens, everything that people do, and do nothing myself... or I live fully, having incredible adventures, and forget to write anything down.

I don't forget pictures, though. I love pictures! They won't usually feature me, but sometimes...

I'll take a picture with a smirking replica warrior. (2009)

I'm from Kansas City, which is Xi'an's sister city. A few years ago, they gave us a gift of these statues, which were made to look like the Terracotta Warriors. We also have dragon boat races every summer.

All the more reason to go to Xi'an!

The updates should be few until my departure, but I will try to post often once I arrive.

I wish you all well!
